Human beings naturally desire success. However, from the perspective of the Qur’an, true success is not limited to worldly achievements; rather, it is intrinsically connected with faith (iman), righteous deeds, and success in the Hereafter. Therefore, the real goal for a believer should be to shape oneself according to the qualities described in the Qur’an and to live accordingly.

One of the key characteristics of a successful believer, as described in the Qur’an, is avoiding useless talk and actions. They stay away from meaningless matters and value their time by engaging in acts of worship and beneficial deeds. Through this, they attain purification of the soul, which is a fundamental condition for success. Allah says: “Successful indeed is the one who purifies it, and failed is the one who corrupts it.” Surah Ash-Shams — 91:9–10

Moreover, successful believers maintain purity in their character and conduct their lives within the limits set by Allah. Their lifestyle is disciplined and controlled, which keeps them away from sin and leads them toward spiritual growth.

Taqwa (God-consciousness) is a fundamental quality of a successful believer. It is an inner state that establishes awareness of Allah in one’s thoughts, words, and actions. Through taqwa, a believer is guided toward goodness and develops a sense of responsibility and caution in all aspects of life.

After faith, righteous deeds are a major component of success. The Qur’an repeatedly mentions faith and righteous actions together. Allah says: “But those who repent, believe, and do righteous deeds—there is hope that they will be among the successful.” Surah Al-Qasas — 28:67

Righteous deeds include fulfilling the rights of relatives, the needy, and travelers, and engaging in acts of goodness for the sake of Allah’s pleasure. Through such actions, a believer attains a pure life in this world and success in the Hereafter. Allah says: “Whoever does righteous deeds, being a believer… We will surely grant them a good life.” Surah An-Nahl — 16:97

A successful believer does not stop at performing good deeds individually; rather, they invite others toward goodness and forbid evil. Allah says: “Let there be among you a group that calls to goodness, enjoins what is right, and forbids what is wrong. They are the successful ones.” Surah Aal-e-Imran — 3:104

Striving in the path of Allah (jihad) is also mentioned in the Qur’an as an important trait of successful believers. Those who strive with their lives and wealth in the cause of Allah are given glad tidings of success and high ranks. Surah At-Tawbah — 9:88 Surah At-Tawbah — 9:20

To attain these qualities, patience (sabr) is essential. A believer faces various trials in life, and remaining patient in such situations keeps them firm on the path of success. Allah says: “O you who believe, be patient… so that you may succeed.” Surah Aal-e-Imran — 3:200

According to the Qur’an, those believers who possess these qualities will receive special rewards in the Hereafter. Their sins will be forgiven, and Allah will admit them into His mercy. “Indeed, those who believe and do righteous deeds—their Lord will admit them into His mercy. That is the clear success.” Surah Al-Jathiyah — 45:30

They will attain the pleasure of Allah, be saved from Hell, and reside eternally in Paradise. The Qur’an states: “Allah is pleased with them, and they are pleased with Him—that is the great success.” Surah Al-Ma’idah — 5:119

The successful believers will inherit Jannatul Firdaus, the highest level of Paradise. “They are the inheritors, who will inherit Al-Firdaus; they will abide therein eternally.” Surah Al-Mu’minun — 23:10–11

In Paradise, they will have safety, peace, and countless blessings. The greatest blessing will be seeing Allah, which is the ultimate symbol of success for a believer. “On that Day, some faces will be radiant, looking at their Lord.” Surah Al-Qiyamah — 75:22–23

Thus, in the light of the Qur’an, the identity of a successful believer is shaped through faith, purification of the soul, taqwa, righteous deeds, (calling to good), striving, and patience. The outcome of these qualities is ultimate success in the Hereafter and the pleasure of Allah.
